Gut–skin axis: what we can say (and what we can’t)

A grounded look at diet, microbiome conversations, and what’s supported vs still speculative.

There’s a lot of interest in the microbiome and rosacea. Some ideas are promising — and some claims are ahead of the evidence.

What seems reasonable

  • Some people notice flares with alcohol, very spicy foods, or hot drinks.
  • Gentle dietary experiments can be useful if done one variable at a time.

What to be cautious about

  • “Cure” claims
  • Highly restrictive diets without medical guidance
  • Expensive test kits with unclear actionability

A practical approach

  1. Track symptoms for 2 weeks.
  2. Change one variable (e.g., hot drinks) for 10–14 days.
  3. Reintroduce and observe.

If GI symptoms are persistent, consider discussing with a clinician.
